states of matter describe the distinct forms in which matter can exist.
Solid:
- Particles are tightly packed and arranged in a fixed structure.
- Definite shape and volume.
Liquid:
- Particles are close but can move past each other, allowing flow.
- Definite volume but takes the shape of its container.
Gas:
- Particles are far apart and move freely.
- No definite shape or volume—fills its container completely.
